Donate A brief history of Somalia

July 1, 1960 - Freedom and unity of the Somali people since the end of the 19th century when they were colonized by the British and Italians.




July 1, 1960: The first president of Somalia was Aden Abdulle Osman Dar (Aden Adde), and he was president until June 10, 1967, when he was succeeded by Rashid Ali Sharmarke. [Aden Ade].
June 10, 1967: Rashid Ali Sharmarke became president of Somalia. On October 15, 1969, A/rashid was killed while on a visit to Lasanod. [Rashid Ali Sharmarke lived in the middle of 1919

Oct 21, 1969 - The so-called "bloodless coup" took place in Somalia, and General Mohamed Siad Barre came to power

Oct 21, 1972: The Somali language was officially written, which before that time was not written, but Somalis have always spoken it


Jan 23, 1975 - Somali scholars protested against the law imposed by Siad Barre's government; This law is against the Qur'an (God's Rule). Since the people of Somalia, who are 100% Sunni Muslims, did not eat for that ruling, the scholars rebelled; and it was answered that ten of the scholars were sentenced to death; and those scholars were shot in Mogadishu on 23/1/1975.


April 9, 1978 - There was a coup d'état to topple the government of Siad Barre. 17 of the coup suspects including Col. Mohamed Sheikh Osman who was the leader of the revolution. At that time, A/Lahi Yusuf left Somalia because he was one of the men who were involved in the implementation of that coup. [The coup was planned to take place on April 12, 1978, but it was earlier and took place on April 9, 1978


Sept 1978 - Col. Abdullahi Yusuf founded the first opposition in the history of Somalia, the rebel (SSF) which changed into (SSDF) in October 1981
.


January 30, 1984: An airstrike targeting Borama killed 37 students between the ages of 6-14 and 4 teachers, while 39 students and 5 teachers were injured. There were 4 pregnant mothers who were at the MCH...


Aug 7, 1990 - The SNM (founded in April 1981), USC (founded in 1989) and SPM (founded in March 1989) united to overthrow the government of Siad Barre.


Jan 27, 1991 - Siad Barre left the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, and the rebels took over there.

Nov 17, 1991 - A power struggle between warlords Mohamed Farah Ayid and Ali Mahdi Mohamed turned into a war. Thousands of civilians died in the war



March 3, 1992 - The opposing rebels signed a ceasefire agreement organized by the United Nations, but the rebels could not agree on how to manage the ceasefire.



April 24, 1992 - The Security Council of the United Nations agreed to send 50 people to Somalia to protect the ceasefire that was signed and Siad Barre left the country.



Sept 19, 1992 - Mohamed Farah Aideed, the warlord who returned to Mogadishu, at the same time refused to bring in peacekeeping forces.



Dec 3, 1992 - The United Nations Security Council decided to send armed peacekeeping forces to Somalia led by the United States.



Dec 9, 1992 - The US Navy landed on the coast of Mogadishu under the name "Operation Restoring Hope".



Jan 15, 1993 - In a discussion organized by the United Nations and held in Addis Ababa, the militias that opposed each other in Somalia signed an agreement to stop the war, which was one of the many agreements they signed.



May 4, 1993 - The United States transferred the leadership of the operation forces in Somalia to the United Nations.



Oct 3, 1993 - Eighteen American soldiers and one Malaysian soldier were killed and 74 Americans were injured after two American helicopters were shot down in Mogadishu. Later this was made into a movie called "Black Hawk Down".



March 28, 1994 - The US operation in Somalia officially ended.



Jan 2, 1995 - Mohamed Siad Barre passed away in Lagos, Nigeria. [Siad Barre lived between 1919 and January 2, 1995]



So today, after 33 years, why don't we have a GOVERNMENT, without intervention, what is the hope for Somalia to stand up again!????
